Hawk Expands U.S. Fraud Solutions Portfolio with Check Fraud Technology
Hawk, the leading provider of AI-powered fraud prevention, anti-money laundering (AML), and screening solutions, today announced the launch of its AI-powered check fraud prevention solution for U.S. financial institutions. The offering extends Hawk’s fraud platform to help banks and credit unions proactively pinpoint and block altered, forged, or counterfeit checks and mitigate check fraud losses.
The solution combines best-in-class AI image forensics and consortium intelligence, powered by Mitek, with Hawk’s flexible AI-powered precision and self-serve rule management. Through the use of AI anomaly detection and advanced image forensics, the solution identifies subtle manipulations and behavioral patterns the human eye can’t see, giving institutions an additional layer of defense against check fraud schemes.
Hawk enables banks and credit unions to unify fraud monitoring across payment rails and channels, simplifying integration and eliminating the need for multiple standalone tools. This unified approach allows financial institutions to detect both check deposit fraud and suspicious movement of funds after clearing, effectively stopping check fraud before losses occur.
Hrishi Talwar, VP of Product, Fraud at Hawk, said: “Rising AI-enabled crime has created new fraud challenges for U.S. banks. This launch is part of our vision to empower financial institutions with an AI-powered platform where visual, behavioral, and transactional data converge to enable truly contextual detection.”
Regulators have reported a sharp rise in check fraud, with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) reporting that suspicious check activity has more than doubled since 2021. Hawk’s new solution directly confronts this escalating threat through the use of explainable AI to detect anomalous behavior, such as unusual deposit patterns or rapid funds movement. This boosts detection precision, reduces unnecessary customer outreach by lowering false positives, and accelerates case resolution with transparent scoring and overlay images.
Kerry Cantley, VP of Digital Banking Strategy at Mitek, added: “Check fraud has been a threat for decades, but modern technology has evolved how fraudsters operate. Together with Hawk, we’re helping financial institutions modernize their defenses with consortium intelligence, turning a legacy challenge into an opportunity for smarter, more adaptive fraud prevention.”
