HAWK:AI partners with amnis to strengthen AML capabilities for European growth

Hawk AI Amnis announcement
Effective and efficient AML compliance requires great technology and deep regulatory experience

Munich/Zürich, 22 February, 2022 – HAWK:AI, Germany’s leading provider of anti-money laundering surveillance technology for banks, payment companies and fintechs, today announced a new partnership with amnis, the simple, fast, and affordable international payment platform for SMEs.

amnis selected HAWK:AI’s scalable technology, powered by AI and machine learning in combination with classic rules, to strengthen their AML capabilities ahead of significant European expansion. The technology will focus on areas including false-positive reduction – a particular challenge for financial institutions – as well as all-in-one list management that powers payment and customer screening efforts. Additionally, the Customer Risk Rating solution will allow amnis to understand their customers with the detail and transparency required to effectively manage risk.

Scaling effectively is an important consideration for fintechs, which is why HAWK:AI provides the flexibility and control to adapt (automatically or through manual configuration) to changing risks, volumes and customers.

“We’re excited to partner with amnis, an innovator in the payment platform space,” said Tobias Schweiger, Co-founder and CEO of HAWK:AI. “Growth follows innovation in the world of Fintech, and compliance challenges should not be a roadblock to either of these items. We look forward to working together to effectively fight financial crime over the coming years.”

"The regulatory environment around financial crime, sanctions monitoring, and AML is complex, which is why you need more than just great AI technology," said Philippe Christen, CFO at amnis. “We’ve found that partnering with technology providers who have deep knowledge of the market helps us design and implement the most efficient, effective and scalable systems. This was a key driver in choosing to work with HAWK:AI.”

HAWK:AI is pursuing global growth in 2022 following a successful Series A funding round in June 2021. amnis recently received their EEA payment institution license, allowing them to pursue expansion through Europe.

HAWK:AI develops and operates a cloud-based software solution for the automated detection of suspected cases of financial crime and money laundering. With Hawk AI, financial institutions can make their transaction surveillance more efficient and ensure regulatory compliance. Hawk AI's software uses a combination of traditional rules and artificial intelligence to detect suspicious behavior in real-time and presents such alerts to Financial Crime specialists for investigation. The solution drastically reduces false alarm rates, e.g., compared to legacy AML/CFT solutions.

HAWK:AI was founded in Munich in 2018 by experienced fintech entrepreneurs Tobias Schweiger and Wolfgang Berner and works with financial institutions and partners such as North American Bancard, Ratepay, Moss and Tuum. In June 2021, HAWK:AI secured a Series A funding of $10M USD from BlackFin Capital Partners and Picus Capital. Visit for more information.
